What are Circles Results?

In our first Circles pilot, early results demonstrate that for every $1 spent on the program, $2 in welfare and food stamp subsidies was returned to the state, and $4 to the community as new earned income.

In our current analysis, the first group of 33 families to complete Getting Ahead and six months of Circles has just posted its six-month, post-Getting Ahead results: 88% increase in earned income, 54% of the Circle Leaders indicated that they had obtained a better paying job, 30% decrease in use of welfare benefits, 56% increase in assets, and 125% increase in “people in my life I can count on.” The median income rose from $637/month to $1200, average assets went from $604 to $941, welfare benefits dropped from $436/month to $306/month, and the average number of “friends I can count on” went from four to nine. Move the Mountain has enrolled over 40 communities form 20 states into the Circles Campaign. We are in partnership with over 700 local organizations.

The General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church has designated Circles™ as the US pilot ministry to the poor. We also work with affiliates of United Way, Goodwill Industries, Community Action, Lutheran Services of America, community foundations, schools, universities and community colleges, and a diverse set of community and faith-based organizations throughout the country.
